![]() In the past, Santa Monica High School and Marina del Rey have produced public fireworks show, but none of these happen on or near the Santa Monica Pier. Although there have been many photos circulated of rockets showering sparks over the beach and pier, none of these displays have happened for New Year’s. There are no fireworks displays or shows planned by the Santa Monica Pier or Beach. If you are celebrating at one of Downtown Santa Monica’s many delicious restaurants or staying in a beach front hotel by Santa Monica State Beach, you can see the lights of the Ferris wheel from Palisades Park, or the beaches south of the pier. Where to watch the New Year’s Eve Countdown in Los Angelesĭue to recent Covid restrictions, the Santa Monica Pier will be closed overnight starting at 10 PM including December 31st, New Year’s Eve. At 11:59 PM giant numbers will count down from 60 seconds till midnight where a bright display of color and light will wish all “Happy New Year!” in over a dozen different languages. The lights will run all night, and the special New Year’s Eve programing will start around 11:30 PM with fun designs and messages.
